Breaking Lent at Varalli….

We began our evening with the celebration of the Great Easter Vigil at St Luke’s and the Epiphany.  What a great service by candlelight.  Afterwards, we strolled over to Varalli on Broad Street at Locust Street (www.varalliusa.com).  We arrived around 9:30pm and were seated immediately next to a cool waterfall feature.  Our server, Joe, came over to tell us that some of the menu items had sold out for the evening and explained to us a few specials they were offering.  We started with cocktails.  I, of course, had the usual and Al had a Yuengling.  Fresh made bread crusted with parmesan, olive oil dipping and creamy butter was brought over.  I started with a delicious shrimp appetizer. Jumbo shrimp sautéed with garlic, Sorrento lemon-infused olive oil, capers, tomato and herbs.   Al ordered the calamari ceci crust,  baby artichokes,  arugula, tomatoes and lemon herb aioli.  For our entrees, I had the lobster ravioli saffron pasta filled with lobster and mascarpone cheese in a mushroom, tomato cream sauce with grape tomatoes.  Al had sea bass sautéed with grilled asparagus, fingerling potatoes and Sicilian pesto drizzle.  Al had another Yuengling with his dinner.  I opted for only one cocktail.  Everything was delicious.  I think the ravioli could have been cooked another minute or so. Al cleaned both of his plates.  We also had a birthday promo certificate.  We award Varalli 4 out of 5 Diva Crowns!  Bon Appetit!
